The View From Here
February 2016
Recently, UUSR member Jane Sherburne handed me a news clipping of a Dear Abby column from the Gloucester Daily Times. The Dear Abby letter was signed “Unorthodox in Ohio” and was about the fact that although the writer was raised in the Christian faith, she had fallen away from church attendance as a teenager and college student. Now she misses being a part of a community and wants to attend church, but not one where she is told a set of beliefs that don’t work for her. Abby responded: “You don’t have to stay home. Instead explore a denomination that has no dogma or creed. One in particular, Unitarian Universalism, has been mentioned before in this column. Unitarian Universalists believe in the dignity and worth of every human being, and encourage and support others in following their personal spiritual paths. If you would like more information, visit www.uua.org.”
Although I may have highlighted our justice work that is a natural outgrowth of our Principles, this column was great publicity! How are you sharing the faith that means so much to you?
Who are you talking to about Sunday morning worship? Who are you talking to about our work with Family Promise, Open Door, and/or issues of racial justice? Do you know anyone who might enjoy reading about the spiritual guidance of the Quran?
Please do not hide your lamp under a bushel! Our faith has the potential to transform the world, one newcomer at a time! We believe in the unity of all peoples, and the universality of the human experience. Ours is a faith for this time and this place. Please spread the good news of Unitarian Universalism!
February will be devoted to speaking about our Principles and our Sources, click here for those who may have forgotten!
See you at 4 Cleaves Street.
